We know many of you have been pondering about doing work to your homes, in preparation for moving in 2019! We asked SafeSite Facilities (….as you can tell they are experts at keep your site safe!) to share top tips with us to help you with your exciting plans!
Home improvement health and safety
Whether you’ve just bought a ‘do-er upper’ or you’re hoping to add value to your property if you are embarking on any kind of DIY or home improvement project it’s essential you consider any possible health and safety risks and take the necessary precautions before work begins.
Here are some top health and safety tips from the professionals at SafeSite Facilitiesto help you prepare for your building project and ensure it runs safely and smoothly.
Building Work Basics
Before anyone lifts a power tool or knocks down a wall, prepare a plan to safely organise and control the work that’s being carried out – particularly if a number of different tradespeople are working alongside each other. Keep the space clean and tidy with enough room for people to comfortably work in, and around each other. Regularly check the work that is happening and stop any dangerous practices immediately. The best way of keeping hazardous areas safe is to fence them off and display warning notices to direct people and traffic away from them.
Make sure walls and structures are kept in a sound condition. Any demolition work should be planned properly and if trenches and excavations are dug they should be fully secured so that people can’t fall in.
Height and Weight Considerations
Any work being carried out at a height carries a high safety risk so wherever possible try to avoid this. When it can’t be avoided, using proper equipment such as cherry pickers and scaffold can help to minimise falls but always have nets or crash bags in place in case of an accident. Ladders are one of the most common causes of accidents when people are carrying out home improvements so if you’re using one follow these simple guidelines. Choose a ladder that suits the height and nature of the work involved. Make sure it’s standing on a firm surface and – if it’s not – ensure there’s another person at the bottom the hold it steady. While ladders can be used for access, working from ladders should be a last resort.
Manual handling is a key part of any building project. Using trolleys and hoists will prevent any unnecessary lifting and carrying. Where possible choose smaller size bags of cement or aggregates and avoid repetitive laying of heavy building blocks and lintels by hand.
Any tools or building work that involves electricity can be dangerous. Make sure your tools are regularly checked over and tested to ensure they are working correctly. Low voltage or battery-operated equipment are a safer option. Electrical connections should be safely made and only suitable plugs used. Cables and leads can easily be damaged on a building site so protect the ones that are visible and mark hidden cables, power sources and services on your master plan so that everyone knows to avoid them.
Clean your tools as you’re going along and always place safety guards on – and switch them off – before leaving a room. If there are children in the house make sure tools are kept out of reach when they are not in use.
Dress for the occasion
Dressing safely is very important; wear old, close-fitting clothes and consider whether you need any safety protection equipment, such as dust masks or safety goggles. If you’re operating noisy power tools always wear earplugs and a hard hat is a must when there’s any risk of falling objects or structures you could bump your head on. In the event of an accident on-site, always keep a well-stocked first aid kit in easy reach.
Whether you are carrying out the building work yourself or you have brought in professionals consider your own welfare and theirs. Working in a building site can be pretty dirty, not to mention cold in the winter months. So ensure you have clean, working toilets, a supply of warm water and drinking water. and a rest area to make hot drinks and eat in.
Consider your family, pets and neighbours if you’re planning on making lots of noise and mess. Only carry out work during sociable hours and keep any tools and materials safely out of arms – and paws – reach. Don’t forget to plan how rubbish and waste will be stored and removed and if you’re using a skip think about the impact of where you place it. Let neighbours know in advance what work you’re planning to carry out, and how long it will take. You never know when you may need to call on them for a favour in the future so invest the time to keep them onside throughout the project.

Our farm is a popular visitor attraction throughout summer where you can wander through a sea of beautiful organic lavender. The lavender normally starts to bloom towards the middle to end of June and the peak time is July and August however the weather can influence this so be sure to check our website for information”
“At our farm you can enjoy a delicious, fresh lunch or snack at our relaxed, al fresco café with picnic tables. Looking for something more urban! Look no further than Box Park… the food at Box Park is truly outstanding – and only a hop, skip and a jump away from Whyteleafe – the Move Revolution team love the food from Bao Bao – it comes highly recommended. Box Park isn’t just for food lovers (although we are pretty sure you will be unable to resist the gorgeous food on offer when you visit) it hosts a wide spectrum of amazing events and activities. The Move Revolution team love Fight Klub… if you want to find out more and get a first hand recommendation just call Sam Webb (our Land & New Homes Manager) or Louise Simpson (Area Sales Manager for Whyleafe) who love this event!
“Boxpark is the world’s first pop-up mall – fusing the concepts of the modern street food market and placing local and global brands side by side, to create a unique shopping and dining destination. Opened in 2011, Boxpark established itself in the heart of London’s Shoreditch to demonstrate that it was entirely possible to bring dining and fashion back to the street and provide fertile ground for independent and established retailers to reach a large audience in a big and eye-catching way. Entirely constructed out of refitted shipping containers, Boxpark utilises a unique position in being able to offer affordable and flexible conditions for lifestyle brands, cafes, restaurants and galleries to trade and succeed. It’s a retail revolution that’s spawned many imitators but no equals. Until now.”
Looking for a cinema experience ..… longing for a really comfortable cinema chair, brilliant food and a chilled glass of wine – look no further than Everyman Cinema Oxted. Just a short drive from Whyteleafe, or hop on the train to Oxted (9 minutes from Upper Warlingham). Nici Jordan (Our Marketing Director) is a regular visitor with her family – “It makes going to the cinema extra special – we love the comfortable sofas at Oxted cinema – it’s a perfect night out”
Perhaps you are looking for stunning views at the same time as enjoying a game of golf… look no further than Woldingham Golf Club.
“Nestled in the serenity of the Halliloo Valley just north of Woldingham, in the heart of the Surrey North Downs, Woldingham Golf Club’s excellent course and facilities have become a popular destination for both golfers and events planners. Designed by American course architect Bradford Benz, the beautiful, rolling course makes the most of the contours of the valley in which it sits and suggests a relaxed game many have yet to experience! A par 71 course in excess of 6,000 yards long from the yellow tees, the course is built on a chalk base, excellent for drainage which, together with the USGA specification greens, allows year round play. Golfers will decide for themselves their favourite holes, but for sheer beauty, the 4th and 7th at the far end of the course, in the bowl of the valley, will take some beating. Surrounded by the course, the Club’s stately neo-classical style clubhouse offers spectacular views across the course and the valley beyond – the view from the first floor event suite, with it’s large ornate stone balcony, truly makes the most of this.”
Or perhaps you enjoy the idea of being pampered! When looking to purchase a new home it’s always important to know if there is a brilliant barber / wonderful hairdresser in the local area.
We recommend Time Hair and Beauty in Caterham. Achieving amazing reviews (and the hairdresser of choice for many of the Move Revolution team) – chat with the team if you would like to find out more!
Perhaps you are craving a country walk to a wonderful pub… The Botley Farm comes highly recommended by the Move Revolution team…
This gorgeous pub is situated on the Titsey Estate, which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Farmhouse is known for breathtaking views as it is at the highest point of the North Downs. There are great walks on the Titsey Estate with a historic house and gardens also St Agatha’s Church in Woldingham with a 750-year-old yew tree. There is a circular walk starting and finishing at Botley Hill Farmhouse.

Our Clients often comment on ‘The Move Revolution experience’, with over 700+ five star reviews, wonderful letters, thank you cards and presents… we know we are different! This email (see below) was received today from one of our very happy Haywards Heath clients – it truly encapsulates the way we work. What it doesn’t say is that we achieved a significantly higher sale price for Dave’s property, over the previous agents who had been marketing his house. If you are in Dave’s shoes, but haven’t had the fortune of meeting Joey (the story will become clear when you start reading) or another of our amazing Sales Managers… please have a read, we know you will want to pick up the phone!
My wife and I recently decided to sell our house due to our growing family and initially instructed Purple Bricks due to a past positive experience. However after getting no real traction we also instructed a local high street estate agent. We got a handful of viewings but didn’t feel there was any real drive and we had to do all the chasing to get feedback from the agent and find out if there was any news.
After what felt like an age and with no real positive results we were on the brink of changing agents to another well know high street name, but we were conflicted with our decision as to whether or not it would make a difference! On the very same day that we had our meeting with this agent…and as it turns out, luck would have it, Joey from Move Revolution knocked on our door.
We don’t usually do people at the door, if you know what I mean but there was something different about Joey and not just his good timing.
He was friendly, not pushy at all, professional and very clued up about the local area and similar properties. One of the main things I remember was the quality of the photos that Joey showed us of some of their other properties. It’s one of those things where you don’t really realise what you’re missing out on until you see it. We thought our existing photos were okay but the quality of the professional photos Move Revolution take are on another level!! I don’t think you can underestimate the importance of good quality photos these days as we tend to swipe through hundreds of pictures until we find something that stands out from the rest.
Armed with our shiny new pics we re-launched the sale of our property with Move Revolution and the results said it all. More viewings, more momentum, more feedback and ultimately an offer at our full asking price in a very short time! The team at Move Revolution are friendly, professional, enthusiastic and always on hand to have a catch up. They really make you feel like it’s their sole focus to sell your house and the experience was a pleasure. I would whole heartedly recommend Move Revolution to anyone. Thank you Joey and the team!!
Hope to see you tomorrow for key handover!
We think you will agree the photography is stunning …
Would you like to play spot the difference! It’s not appropriate to name the other agent – this is all about showing you the unbelievable difference side by side! So let’s play… you tell use which house you would be interested in viewing!
The other agent captures the kitchen, but misses including all the breakfast table – which is a key selling point for the room (the photograph has a strangely ‘grey’ look)
Move Revolution Kitchen Photograph – making sure the whole of the breakfast table is shown and stunning lighting
Is this photograph from the other agent actually straight?!
Move Revolution Bathroom Photograph – spot the difference!
The Sitting Room
The other agents photography makes this light, bright room look dark and grey!
Move Revolution’s photography – light, bright, airy – a wonderful family sitting room (it also includes so much more of the room)
The other agent…
Move Revolution’s photograph – you know you would enjoy a glass of chilled white wine in this garden in the Summer!
It’s not all about the photography (although isn’t it stunning!) – it’s about expert Estate Agency…say hello to Joey Hansen the Sales Manager mentioned in the email…
In a nutshell it’s a passion for property and people
Call 0330 223 1000 and we will put you through to exactly the right person for your property location – you will be speaking to Joey or someone equally as passionate who is ready to sell your house as quickly as possible for the most amount of money!
Join Dave and sell your house with us today!

We have loved selling stunning properties in Watercolour last year and looking forward to selling many more in 2019. Watercolour has a wonderful feel due to it’s unique setting in the countryside, connected to Redhill for easy access to the mainline station and amazing facilities (The Belfry Shopping Centre, new Sainsbury’s, Harlequin theatre, Redhill Memorial Park and so much more), Bletchingley village with it’s country pubs, renowned auction house and wonderful walks, and Merstham with great train connection, increasingly popular Pizza Project (wood fired pizza’s at their best), long established Newtons Violins, specialising in Stringed instruments and quaint Quality Street, which hosts annual events and from which you can access Quality Street Cricket Club and pitch.
Louise Simpson, our Area Sales Manager for Reigate, Redhill and the surrounding villages is a Watercolour expert, we asked her to share what she loves about Watercolour and why it is a great place to buy a home…
What do you love about Watercolour?
Watercolour is really lovely for walks around the lake, this is often commented on by our clients, when I have taken a walk around the lake it is so open and beautiful, not only do you take in the beauty of the lake but also the incredible ‘skies’ that can be seen throughout the year – and my favourite a stunning sunset.
Watercolour has been designed with a great deal of thought about the living space inside the houses. As you can imagine I have seen quite a few Watercolour properties over the past years, I love their individual layouts and features, particularly those that you don’t often come across. I fell in love with the mezzanine floor at Mockford mews, this design feature created an incredible space inside the property – I know the new owners found this irresistible
There is also a community feel with local shops, pharmacy, and doctors, which is a real pull for those moving to Watercolour from outside the area.
What has been your favourite room in the recent Watercolour properties you have sold?
It is very difficult to choose, as you know I loved the mezzanine floor at Mockford Mews. However, it would have to be the master bedroom at Lilley Mead, with its walk in dressing area it was exceptional – especially the breath-taking view across the lake as you wake up and go to bed at night!
Why is Watercolour so popular?
Watercolour is very popular with families and first time buyers, in particular those who commute, as it is so close to Redhill and Merstham main line stations. The development of Lime Tree Primary School with it’s new facilities have added to interest in the area. The Lime Tree Primary School is part of GLF Multi Academy Trust, which has a very good reputation, and is also responsible for the development of the new secondary school in the area.
“A Multi-Academy Trust established in 2012, we believe that every child in our schools can achieve the highest academic standards whilst enjoying a vibrant, challenging and rich curriculum. Whilst operating as a part of a family, each school exists in its own right maintaining its own unique characteristics and individual identity”
If you would like to find out more about Lime Tree Primary School and GLF MAT I would suggest looking on their website and chatting with local parents who sing it’s praises.
Watercolour also has a huge appeal because of if design – modern and stylish… with the canals and the beautifully manicured gardens which are all looked after, I really enjoy showing a potential resident around Watercolour and I know instantly if it ticks all the boxes!
What other things can you recommend in the local area?
I can highly recommend a visit to Nutfield Priory Farm, with the garden centre on one side of the road, with a brilliant café, and the farm shop on the other side of the road ….it is a treat to visit. It is the perfect place to pick up special cheeses or meat from the butches – they also have an amazing selection of Gin! Stocking COOK meals and a selection of fruit and vegetables it can easily become addictive popping in to pick up something delicious! (I’m not suggesting it is an affordable solution to a weekly shop!!) The Move Revolution Head Office is just around the corner from the farm – which means it is very easy to pop in for a unique last minute birthday present. There is also a Pet shop opposite the farm shop – perfect for anyone with animals!
Many of the Move Revolution team enjoy a coffee at The Old Post in Nutfield which a short distance from Watercolour. If you are looking to walk to a local pub from Watercolour.. it is stroll to The Inn on the Pond in Bletchingly – a beautiful setting and the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or a pint (of the local brew!)

How much do you love Flori’s (from Squiggle Dot & Squeeze) blogs.. they always make us smile, give us amazing ideas – and this blog is no different. As many of your know Flori is one of Move Revolution’s Guest Bloggers – her focus at this time of the year is very much family and friends. She has created a blog with this focus…
Slowing the Pace for a Peaceful Christmas
It is time to slow down cosy up and leave the world outside the front door. We have had weeks of dashing about and endless lists to complete. At every turn something calls for our attention. With this blog post we didn’t want to add to the to do list with craft projects that involve more work for the already stretched parent.
I am also really feeling a need for less is more this Christmas. Less stuff more time. A pause to create space to be grateful and in the moment. All very idyllic but with young children not always possible.
We have created a printable for you, we promise no glue or glitter needed. The first is a Christmas eve/day activity. I read that the tradition of getting out for a walk on Christmas day after an afternoon of indulgence is losing its place on the list of British Christmas traditions, as we opt of tec and t.v and mud free, over fresh air and wellies. I am clinging on to our walk tradition we don’t go out for long or far but we have a little street wander and yes you guessed it use our Christmas printable to keep the kids engaged. It keeps us all in the moment and distracts us from frozen noses. We promise hot chocolate on our return and savour the feeling of warmth when we get back in doors. Lets keep the Christmas walk tradition alive.
After so much plenty our second printable makes space for some reflection and is great to use between Christmas and new year. We all do it and then read out each others. Its a wonderful keep sake in the children’ s memory boxes, and we love to see what they remember it also makes us chat as a family about our year and we suddenly realises how many blessings we have enjoyed, the trials we have over come and the dreams that lie ahead.
All that is left to do is wish you a merry Christmas and we look forward to sharing some Squiggle Dot and Squeeze creative fun with you in 2019. In the mean time if you need some creative inspiration find us on Instagram or Facebook @squiggledotandsqueeze and for us to celebrate your crafty master pieces use #squiggledotandsqueeze
If you are looking for your dream house… just give us a call and chat to us on 0330 223 1000, why not book a valuation at the same time.

Our Move Revolution Girls’ Wish List was such a huge hit last year we have updated it for 2018… with so many compliments about the different independent businesses, we have added in all their new gifts for 2018 – fantastic for last minute ideas! We originally wanted to create an Ultimate Girls’ Christmas Wish List using all the local knowledge from the girls (and guys) in our Move Revolution offices throughout Surrey, Sussex and Kent! It was decided that our list needed to be ‘local’ either produced by someone local, or stocked by someone local.
As an independent business, we know how much hard work and dedication we invest into delivering the very best possible customer service for our clients….having started with one office in Nutfield, Surrey which covers the Reigate, Redhill, Horley and Oxted area we now have offices throughout Surrey, Sussex and Kent, at Move Revolution we all have a real love for what we do, as do all these local businesses!
This is our 2018 gorgeous sparkly list – get ready to buy all the things for yourself (or share this with your partner with a big hint!!)
Move Revolution’s Girls Shopping List 2018-
(To read full details on each of the item, and why we love it, see below!)
Find out a little bit more about the gorgeous items on our ultimate shopping list 2018!
(1) The perfect Candle – All about Eve at Home Dark Amber
These are truly gorgeous candles – and we love the latest edition!
“A hypnotic fragrance of amber and leather on a base of jasmine, smoky spices and a hint of citrus, make this a truly sophisticated seasonal fragrance.
Hand poured in the UK by candle specialists, our candles hold 220gms of wax, burn for approximately 40 hours and burn evenly right down to the bottom of the glass. Our customers love them as they really do hold their strong fragrance right to the very end!!”
(2) The perfect handmade gift – Lollipops!
Do you remember Willow & Boo (recommended by our Royal Tunbridge Wells team) this year, inspired by the film they have created The Nutcracker box….
A lovely treat box with-
(3) The Sevenoaks satchel – Every girl likes to feel unique!
“Inspired by the bags of the 1930’s and 40’s, when artistry was paramount, the Sevenoaks Satchel is a respectful nod to history, a new classic for a changed world. Designed with versatility in mind it can be worn on the shoulder, hands-free across the body or brief-case style using the top handle. The Sevenoaks satchel features a generously proportioned duel moulded body, single buckle brass closure and detachable internal pocket. Streamlined and minimalist but imbued with character, this unique Satchel is your new style must-have”
(4) GIN GIN GIN ! (Need we say more!)
A few of us had the pleasure of visiting the Gin Kitchen this summer – it was truly amazing, they have launched a new gin – they are feeling in the pink this time!
“As our NEW Blushing Monkey Pink Gin hit the shelves of Fortnum and Mason in September 2018 for our fourth Spirit of the Month. Our latest addition is our unique interpretation of the pink gin revolution – our amethyst portal to the divine! We’ve created a juniper-led but gorgeously floral gin with a delightful sweet (but not too sweet) fruity twist by macerating our mischievous Gutsy Monkey with a bashful cluster of sweet black grapes! With the addition of tonic, the initially translucent Blushing Monkey transforms into a pearlescent pink elixir. Our favourite serve is to add the tonic first so the gin forms a candifloss-coloured cloud.”. http://gin.kitchen

We always get a great response when we share snippets of information about our favourite places. It’s easy to share ‘hidden gems’ when it comes to cute villages throughout Surrey, Sussex and Kent – however, we all agreed it can be easy to over look the more ‘urban’, busy towns, which we think we know well and have possibly not considered visiting, or choosing as somewhere to live! With this in mind we asked our residence ‘foodie’ Ryan Milson to share his love of ‘all things’ Sutton!
“Considering that I am looking to buy a property in Sutton next year…and that I have lived in Sutton most of my life, it wasn’t a surprise that I was asked to share why I’ve grown rather fond of the area! Sutton is one of London’s greenest boroughs and I spent most of my childhood exploring Sutton’s many local woods and playing fields. In fact, Sutton has 607 hectares of green space and 16 parks; That’s a lot of exploring!
Royston Park and Rosehill Park are where I spent most of time playing football for The Royals. Looking back, I always knew that I would never be good enough to pursue football as a career option, but I have always loved playing football since being a child and still play every Tuesday night (I like to think of myself as a rare left footed winger who’d be useful in any low standard football team!)
I also attended local schools; Muschamp Primary School, Muschamp Road in Carshalton and for Secondary, Greenshaw High School, Grennell Road. This is where I met a lot of my close friends. We often joke about how we’d love to go back for a day. Once I had finished my final year at Greenshaw I decided to stay on and study for my A-levels and the school’s successful Sixth Form. After studying for another year and achieving my As-level, I decided to continue my education at Carshalton Girls (mixed) Sixth Form. This was a new and exciting challenge where I met many more close friends and more importantly, my girlfriend Nicole. Myself and Nicole were in the same class studying Film. Rumour has it that she only picked the class to introduce herself to me; A decision I’m sure she regrets to this day!
After leaving school I got a job on the High Street working at a well-known retail store. I would often pop out for a coffee (Caramel Macchiato to be specific!) at Starbucks and pop into the many shops and cafes on the high street.
I no longer work in the heart of Sutton and love working in our Move Revolution Purley Office at the incredible Airport House, Purley Way, but still enjoy many of Sutton’s places of interest including local restaurants and bars. I’m often referred to, by everyone in the team as a ‘foodie’. This is due to my significant love of food and I could talk for hours about my much-loved meals and restaurants.
My favourite lunchtime spot is The Mad Coffee Bar, known locally as ‘The Portuguese Café’. It’s the perfect spot for fresh, homemade sandwiches and baguettes which you can enjoy whilst sat on their outside terrace.
If dinner is more your thing, head to The Spaghetti Tree, a popular Italian Restaurant situated just a short walk from Sutton Station. The King prawn and chorizo tagliatelle is my personal recommendation!
If you’d rather enjoy Sutton’s evening and nightlife, pay a visit to All Bar One located on the High Street, its contemporary décor and fancy cocktails appeals to the local professionals who wish to unwind at the weekend. Alternatively, I head to The Old Bank, a pub next to Sutton Station; It’s perfect for meetings friends before we head into London for a night out or out out.
For the commuter, Sutton offers a direct service into London from its Sutton, West Sutton and Sutton Common train stations. At Move Revolution we deal with a lot of local buyers who love the balance between Sutton’s semi-rural lifestyle but commutability into London for work.
Years later, I no longer live in Sutton but I am planning to buy my first home later this year with Nicole; we’d love to be able to return to where we first met and grew up together. If you spot me in a local bar or restaurant, come over and say hi! I will tell you more about my love for Sutton’s local food spots!”
I smiled when I read Ryan’s blog – it’s certainly all things football (in the parks) and food .. but not shopping – and Sutton has brilliant shopping either at Time Square Shopping Centre (TK MAXX followed by a Starbucks Frappacino – who can resist!) or St Nicholas Shopping Centre… what a list to tempt you to pop to Sutton!
Have we temped you to visit Sutton for shopping, a meal or perhaps to visit one of the 16 parks?! Our Move Revolution Purley, Croydon office manage property sales and lettings for Sutton and the surrounding area. Just give Ryan or Paul Mulligan a call on 020 8819 3272 to find out about gorgeous houses we have for sale in the area. We will let you into a little secret that we will be launching a collection of new flats just a short stroll from Rosehill Park, and a short stroll to the the train station and high street. If you would particularly love to buy a ‘new build’ this is the perfect opportunity to ‘snap up’ a wonderful new flat (these properties will all have HELP TO BUY) as an added bonus!
